Getting ready for first foods
What to set aside at home and how to record it. When to start and what to offer is for your paediatrician to say.
This is not health advice
When to start, what to offer and in what order is a conversation with your paediatrician, and only with them. What is here is the practical part: what to have ready at home and how to keep the memory of this stage, which is short and very funny.
What makes life easier
- A highchair you can wash all over, or a large sheet of plastic underneath.
- A long-sleeved bib. The small ones are useless at this stage.
- A suction plate, which buys you a few days before it becomes a toy.
- Two spoons: one for her to hold and one for you to use.
The memories worth having
- The face at each new flavour. Photograph the face, not the plate.
- A short video of the first day sitting in the highchair.
- The list of foods she loved and the ones she spat out. Fifteen years from now, comparing it with her taste is hilarious.

The mirror
Sit with her facing a mirror and talk. The reaction changes from month to month, and filming the same scene every couple of months makes a beautiful sequence.

The first trip
What to bring, how much travelling time she can take, and how not to come home without a single photo of the three of you.
