Outings and fresh air · 3 months to 2 years
The first trip
What to bring, how much travelling time she can take, and how not to come home without a single photo of the three of you.
Choosing where to go
- Near beats beautiful. Three hours in the car with stops is a comfortable limit in the first months.
- A place with a kitchen is worth more than a place with a pool.
- If you fly, a flight at her sleep time usually goes better than an early one.
The suitcase
- Clothes for twice as many days. Something always happens.
- Regular medication, prescriptions and the vaccination record.
- A familiar toy and a blanket from home: the familiar smell helps with sleeping in a strange bed.
- A bin bag and wet wipes in every corner: backpack, car, handbag.
The photos that are missing afterwards
- The photo of the three of you together. Ask a stranger, even if you cannot be bothered. You come home from every trip with only the photos you took yourself.
- The landscape photo with her tiny in the corner, to give scale.
- A ten second video every day, unedited. Together they make the best summary of the trip.

The mirror
Sit with her facing a mirror and talk. The reaction changes from month to month, and filming the same scene every couple of months makes a beautiful sequence.

A box of textures
A fluffy offcut, paper that crumples, a wooden spoon, a dry sponge. Nothing small enough to fit whole in a mouth. More entertaining than an expensive toy.
